Traffic at Cambodia Airports grow double digits in January 2017

Cambodia Airports handled more than 830,000 passengers and 8,000 flights movements in January 2017, an increase of 19.7% and 15.5% respectively compared to 2016.

Import and export tonnages in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap Cargo Terminals increased by 28.5% to 4,156 tons in 2017.


Phnom Penh International Airport welcomed almost 350,000 passengers in January 2017, an increase of 19.1% while Siem Reap International Airport handled almost 460,000 passengers, growing 15.2% year-on-year. Domestic travel increased by 5.1% and 17.5% respectively.

30% of the total passengers at Phnom Penh International Airport are from China, Macau, Hong Kong and Taiwan. 24% are from Thailand and 10% from Malaysia and Singapore. The travelers from Cambodia contributed 10% to the growth.

At Siem Reap Airport, China, Macau, Hong Kong and Taiwan contributed 31% of the total passengers followed by Thailand, Vietnam and South Korea with the share of 17%, 16% and 14% respectively. The travelers from Cambodia shared 11%.

Passenger traffic at Sihanouk International Airport increased by 183.2%% to 33,040 passengers, spurred by ongoing international flights from China by Tianjin Airlines and Sky Angkor Airlines and Vietnam by Cambodia Angkor Air. The domestic traffic between Siem Reap and Sihanoukville increased by 58.2% while International travel increased by 608.3%.
Flights Movements
Phnom Penh International Airport handled more than 3,000 domestic and international flight movements while Siem Reap handled almost 5,000, an increase of 10.4% and 12.8% respectively compared to 2016. Although domestic travel declined, international numbers maintained a steady growth due to an additional boost from the International airlines.

Sihanouk International Airport handled more than 400 flights movements, up 167.9% year-on-year spurred by ongoing international flights as well as a growth in domestic movements from Siem Reap.
With the latest entrant to a growing network of freighter operators, import and export tonnage in Phnom Penh Cargo Terminal grew by 30.2%, while Siem Reap Airport Cargo Terminal slightly decrease at 5.9%, compared to 2016.

Bangkok Airways officially opened its Lounge (Boutique Lounge and Blue Ribbon Lounge) at Siem Reap International Airport on January 09, 2017 to provide comfort and convenient for passengers while waiting for their flights.

Located within the Departure International Terminal with a floor space of 400 square meters, it is equipped with the latest facilities for its passengers. The lounge has ample seating capacity offering complimentary light refreshment and nice ambience and overlooking the runway and tarmac.

According to the airlines’ Press Release, Passengers of Bangkok Airways traveling on Siem Reap – Bangkok route can now enjoy brand new lounges where passengers can treat themselves to a multitude of free snacks and various choices of hot or cold drinks, free Wi-Fi Internet access. For Bangkok Airways’ business class - the Blue Ribbon Club or for any passengers with FlyerBonus Premier Membership can enjoy extra treats at the Blue Ribbon Club Lounge that offers more services such as hot meals, a personal shower room. Both lounges are located near the exit 4 and 5.
